With a time of 2:28.15 minutes, the Audi RS e-tron GT has set the benchmark for electric performance in a special demonstration at the annual Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour endurance race.

German Audi Sport driver and current lap record holder Christopher Mies set down a blistering lap in a showcase of sheer performance, heralding the grand tourer’s recent arrival to Australian showrooms.

Wearing a distinctive e-tron livery to commemorate the record-setting lap, the production car is completely un-modified with Australian specifications that are available to all Audi customers Down Under. This included the tyres used for the demonstration session, although the team did require adjustments to the tyre pressures to account for track conditions.

The RS e-tron GT delivers up to 475 kW of power and a massive 830 Nm of torque. With two electric motors (one on the front and one on the rear axle) it puts power down to all four wheels with the very latest in Audi’s e-quattro system. This allows it to complete the sprint from standstill to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds on the way to a limited top speed of 250km/h.

“The acceleration is quicker than my GT3 car,” said Christopher Mies after the lap. “I was surprised at just how quick the car is able to punch out of the corners.”

Christopher’s resume includes a plethora of winning titles at GT races across the globe including two previous wins for Audi Sport in this very event. Racing at Bathurst this weekend in the #777 Audi R8 LMS, he also holds the current outright lap record at Bathurst, a blistering 1:59.29-minute lap he set in 2018 driving an Audi R8 LMS GT3.

“We are so excited to launch this car and to see it on Australian roads,” said Nick Reid, General Manager of Marketing at Audi Australia. “Even more so, to see it go straight from the road and on to a track as iconic as Mount Panorama – it is a great opportunity to demonstrate the sheer brilliance of this car.”
